Property Rights: China vs. Your County

Near Wenling in Zhejiang, China, Luo Baogen has refused to sell his home to the government to make way for a new road. The builders built the road anyway, and the house now sits right in the middle of a highway. The main issue is that the government is offering Luo Baogen much less in compensation than he actually paid for the house, and he is holding out for more.


If you think property rights are not in severe jeopardy in the United States, here's something to ask yourself. What would have already happened to this homeowner if he lived in your county instead of China?
